The Akritas of Kavala

A monument associated with the Pontian Cultural Society ‘O Akritas’ of Kryoneri. It is a fixed point for the region’s annual commemorations of the Pontian Greek genocide and presents the akritas, the frontier guard, as a symbolic sentinel over the city. Photograph: Kavala Post.
